Route 66 is perhaps the most famous highway in America. Filled with the lure of the open road, dotted with diners and slices of Americana and streaking across some of the most fascinating countryside in the United States. Route 66 has been the subject of songs, movies, television shows and novels. Yet when there is automotive trouble, it might seem like the loneliest place in the world. In the '50s. a stranded driver on Route 66 found a Red Crown Emergency Service truck a welcome sight. This vehicle was in constant contact with the Santa Fe service station, the crackling radio squawking out the location of broken down vehicles and troubled motorists, many of whom had contacted the station through their local AAA club. Its taut tarp - marked with the interstate logo of Route 66 - kept tools, supplies, gasoline and oils from the desert sun and cool night air. Many drivers sighed with relief when the tarp was placed back on the truck, and their own car was once again ready to go cruising down Route 66.
And now the Red Crown Emergency Service 1955 Ford F100 is part of The Fabulous Fifties Road Service Collection. It has been crafted in die-cast metal by Matchbox Collectibles - "the Greatest Name in Die-Cast."
